How to update ElkNut (refresh the App Store or Google Play)

When we release a new version of ElkNut, your phone’s app store doesn’t always notice right away — it shows a cached list of updates that can be hours old. Nine times out of ten the fix is simply forcing the store to re-check. Here’s how on each platform.

On iPhone or iPad (App Store)

1. Open the App Store.
2. Tap your profile photo in the top-right corner.
3. Pull down on that screen and let go — this forces the store to re-check for updates.
4. If ElkNut shows up in the list, tap Update.

Still not listed?

• Go to the Search tab and search for ElkNut. If the button says Update, tap it. If it says Open, you already have the newest version that’s available to you.
• Force-quit the App Store (swipe up from the bottom of the screen, then flick the App Store card away) and reopen it. That clears the cached page.

On Android (Google Play)

1. Open the Google Play Store.
2. Tap your profile icon in the top-right corner.
3. Tap Manage apps & device, then Updates available.
4. Pull down to refresh the list.
5. Tap Update next to ElkNut.

Still not listed?

• Search for ElkNut in the Play Store. If the button says Update, tap it.
• Clear the Play Store’s cache: your device’s Settings → Apps → Google Play Store → Storage → Clear cache, then reopen the Play Store and check again.

If the update still isn’t showing — it may not be your turn yet

This is the most common reason, and nothing is actually wrong:

• Updates roll out gradually. Both Apple and Google release new versions in stages. A brand-new update can take anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days to reach every account, device, and country. If it hasn’t reached you yet, no amount of refreshing will surface it — it’ll simply appear when it does.
• Device compatibility. If your phone is on an older version of iOS or Android than the update requires, the store won’t offer it. Updating your device’s OS usually resolves that.

Check which version you’re running

Open ElkNut and go to Account → Settings — the version is listed at the bottom, like ElkNut v4.0.6 (151). Compare it to the version shown on the app’s store listing to confirm whether you’re already up to date.

Turn on automatic updates

So you don’t have to think about it again:

• iPhone / iPad: device Settings → App Store → App Updates (turn on).
• Android: Play Store → profile icon → Settings → Network preferences → Auto-update apps. You can also set it per-app: search ElkNut → tap the ⋮ menu → Enable auto update.

Using ElkNut in a browser?

The web version at elknut.app updates itself — there’s nothing to install. If it still looks out of date, close the tab and reopen it, or do a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows, ⌘+Shift+R on Mac). It may take one reload to fetch the new version and a second for it to take effect.

A few last things worth trying: restart your device, make sure you’re signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account that installed ElkNut, and check you have enough free storage for the download.
